Loss of Banks Bond Disappoints Church Leaders
MINNEAPOLIS AP Forfeiture of bond money when Dennis Banks disappeared has caused some loss of credibility in the American Indian Movement with church spokesmen. But they indicated it would not turn the church against Banks. Banks, 43, St. Paul, an AIM leader, failed to show up at Custer SD for sentencing last week, church agencies yielded 10000 in bond. Banks had been convicted July 23 of riot and assault in the February 1973 outbreak at Custer. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. United Methodist Church leaders had arranged for 9000 of the bond. Bishop James Thomas head of the Iowa United Methodist Conference called Banks disappearance out of character. The Iowa conference put up 4000 of the bond.

It voids judgments against Mrs Gandhi and could nullify her June 12 conviction. Her lawyers plan to challenge the amendment as altering the constitution’s basic structure and may pivot to retroactive election law changes.

Cedar Rapids Poised for Census Figures Amid Plans
A preliminary census report sent to Mayor Don Canney remains sealed as he is away. Final figures due within two months are unlikely to differ greatly, with changes expected to be small. City planners say funding unaffected for now, and long range plans rely on multiple factors. Traffic plans should not shift immediately, though a population dip would surprise Cedar Rapidians.
