Consultant lands radio job for Iowa Public Radio
Cindy Browne, a Minnesota broadcasting consultant, will become the first executive director of Iowa Public Radio. The Executive Council voted 4-0 to hire her, starting Sept. 1 at a $120 000 salary. Browne will direct daily operations and seek staff cooperation across UI, ISU, and UNI stations amid a consolidation to save about 300 000 over five years.

Man Charged in Assault and Cocaine Sales Case

Insecticide Spill After Trailer overturns near Stanley
About eight gallons of insecticide spilled into a ditch Monday morning when a semi trailer overturned at an intersection west of Stanley. The driver, 29-year-old Jacob Rechkemmer of Oelwein, was uninjured and the environment was not harmed, per the Iowa State Patrol. The spill was contained and occurred around 10:20 a.m. on L Avenue in southern Fayette County.

Dubuque Pilot Survives Wisconsin Plane Crash
Evan Freeman 22 of Dubuque survived a Saturday crash near Lancaster Wisconsin after a mechanical problem during landing in a corn field. The 1958 Cessna owned by Tri-State Sky Divers of Lancaster flipped but Freeman walked away with minor injuries as FAA investigates.
