Peers run Linn County youth court for first-time offenders
At Center Point Urbana Middle School a 15 year old helped himself to 50 dollars from the office safe two years ago. He chose the Linn County Peer Review Court and now promotes it as an option for teens who make dumb mistakes. The program handles non violent first offenses and keeps cases out of the regular court system if sentences are completed. About 85 percent of participants finish probation. The Linn County program faces funding uncertainty and possible discontinuation.
