O'Connor Confirmed By Senate After Proxmire Filibuster

The Senate confirmed President Kennedy's nominee Lawrence O'Connor to the Federal Power Commission by an 83 to 12 vote. Sen. Proxmire's 32 hour speech ended when he withdrew his motion to recommit, and O'Connor pledged to dispose of oil and gas holdings to avoid conflicts.

Khrushchev Warns West of Bigger Bomb at Titov Greeting

Premier Khrushchev at a Kremlin reception for cosmonaut Gherman Titov warned the West that Russia could make a bomb far larger than hydrogen if peace prospects fail. He cited a potential 100 million ton bomb and pressed for a Germany peace treaty and universal disarmament while saying no war is intended.

Lisbon Man Describes Blast and Sought Cause

A 4 room frame house owned by Mr and Mrs Fred Kruse and their two sons was demolished by an explosion at about 517 am Wednesday. Kruse said a gas heater beneath the bathroom may have caused it though officials found no gas readings. The house roof collapsed in the front half and walls at the rear were blown out. Mrs Kruse, pinned by debris, was rescued and hospitalized in Cedar Rapids in good condition. Continuous tests were not planned unless requested by the fire marshal.

Pan American Plane Seized Over Mexico hijacked to Havana

A Pan American DC-8 with 81 aboard was hijacked over Mexico on Wednesday and diverted to Havana where it landed safely at 1 25 p m CST. The airline reported all passengers and crew are safe. High officials were aboard the jet during the incident.

Torrential rains from a stalled thunderstorm caused flash floods in northwest Iowa. Two Washta men, Wilson Zarr and his son Archie, were missing and believed drowned after flood waters swept away their car near Washta.

British Plane Missing With 36 Passengers

A British plane with 36 passengers vanished while en route to Sola airport near Stavenger Norway. The control tower lost radio contact five minutes before its scheduled arrival prompting a search by helicopters and ships in the North Sea. Police say the aircraft was carrying tourists to Norway.
