The collision occurred as Gilliland was westbound and rear ended Love’s car.
MINNEAPOLIS AP A commitment ordering Representative Francis Shoemaker to serve a 30 day term in the workhouse was issued by Judge Fred B Wright after Shoemaker failed to appear in traffic court to pay a 75 dollar fine following his conviction for a alleged failure to stop after an accident.
Des Moines records a 95 degree high as thundershowers bring brief relief from a weekend heat wave. The heat toll climbs with the death of 85 year old Nancy Thomas of Audubon attributed to the hot spell. Storms Sunday caused wind and rain damage in Boone Waterloo and Muscatine areas.

Los Angeles AP reports Bery Levy, 63, noted cartoonist and stagecraft figure, died Sunday night after a long illness. Levy gained international fame for his bant black and white cartoons and spent 27 years on vaudeville circuits. In recent years he resided in Los Angeles and contributed as an film illustrator.
