Mixed results for NewBo businesses during festival weekend
In Cedar Rapids NewBo District, some shops saw sales drop during the three day “newho evolve” event amid street blockades and limited parking. Next Page Books sold nine books in three hours, with owner Bart Carthers calling the event “really bad” as weekend summer sales were lost. Restaurants and bars benefited into late night after major concerts, with Tornado’s Grub and Pub expanding outdoor space to handle crowds. Carthers urged neighborhood input for future events to make it win win.
