The 7200 watt Kouba Building system in southeast Cedar Rapids will meet a typical household’s electricity needs. Dennis Pottratz of Go Solar! notes prices have fallen 40 to 50 percent since the 1990s as solar installations grow. Twenty four volunteers are learning in two weekend workshops led by Pottratz while Europe’s demand raises US module costs. Rick Steen, 44, helps install satellite dishes and joined the workshop out of interest.
