NFO Ordered to Halt Illegal Collection of Members Dues
WINTERSET AP The National Farmers Organization was ordered to stop using fraudulent statements to collect delinquent dues. Madison County District Court Judge Van Wifvat issued a temporary injunction after the Iowa Attorney General filed suit alleging violations of the Consumer Credit Code. The order bars claimed guarantees of winning every lawsuit, threats of double payments, and that federal agencies will sue members. It also blocks claims of legal obligation after long nonpayment and requires proper notices and procedures for dues increases and member cancellations. The SEC has alleged insolvency and the NFO has faced attempts to appoint a receiver.
