Ted Wanerus of Marion took the top honors in the Modified stock car feature at Tipton Sunday night. He moved up as leader Rick Sawyer blew a front wheel on lap ten and led the rest of the race despite pressure from Wayne Settles. The race was halted three times for accidents. Walt McCoy of Cedar Rapids also featured in the event.

Pepsi-Cola completed a 13-0 season by topping C R Sports Club 6-4 to win the Cleveland park 12-13-year-old league title and will meet AMC-BW of Noelridge, Eastside champion, for the city championship at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Cleveland. Tom Hasley and Steve Hanson each had two hits for Pepsi.

Zachar rolled past Noelridge 10 2 to win the Noelridge title while Operating Engineers defeated Coca-Cola 5 2 to take the Van Vechten crown. Jim Skogsbergh pitched a two hitter with 11 strikeouts for Zachar, while Brian Ahearn had two hits. Tom Fagan tripled and joined Steve McKee in a two hitter for Operating Engineers.
