Christena Ferry Sinks Killing 75 Survivors 75 Bodies Recovered
An inter island ferry the Christena sank between St Kitts and Nevis with about 250 aboard. Reports say 75 survivors and 75 bodies recovered as U S and local authorities launch a massive rescue effort with police launches helicopters navy coast guard and aircraft in the area. The cause of the disaster was not known.

Cedar Rapids Crash Claims Man's Life Four Injured
Claude Grandstaff, 45, of 3131 Bayberry Drive SW Cedar Rapids, died on arrival at a hospital after a two car collision on highway 149, two and a half miles southwest of Cedar Rapids. Four others were injured including Wayne Riegel, 17, driving his car to University Hospitals Iowa City with severe head injuries. Grandstaff's wife, 42, and Catherine Hines, 21, were admitted to Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids with facial lacerations and fractures. Kerry Wood, 19, a passenger in the Riegel car, suffered a broken leg at Mercy. Road patrol says Riegel braked, slid off road, then struck the Grandstaff car.

Infant Dead Five Hurt in Iowa Collision
A six month old Ayrshire boy, Scott Edward Bates, was killed in a two car crash four miles south of Emmetsburg at the Palo Alto County road and Iowa 4 intersection. Four Bates family members were injured but in good condition. Mark Raymond Stilles, 18, Mallard, driver of the other car, also injured. Authorities say the Bates vehicle was turning onto the highway when the collision occurred.

Two Killed Seven Injured In Monticello Crash
Special to The Gazette Monticello Iowa two people were killed and seven injured in a three car accident on highway 151 north of Monticello at noon Saturday. Victims include Mrs. Clarence Polster and her year old son from Sheboygan Falls Wisconsin. The Polster family and Frank Ellwood 78 of Monticello were involved along with Melvin Schmitt 49 of Epworth. Police described the crash as Polster car going out of control colliding with Ellwood car and a northbound Schmitt auto. All injured were treated at local and area hospitals with two bodies held in Monticello pending relatives notification.

Celia Strengthens Into Gulf of Mexico Hurricane
Hurricane Celia grew to 115 mph in the Gulf, prompting a hurricane watch for northern and western Gulf coasts.
