Two Thefts Help Skins Tip Bears in Preseason Clash

Washington Redskins beat the Chicago Bears 13-7 in a rain soaked preseason game. Sam Huff and Tom Toussell forced turnovers leading to scores. Larry Brown opened the scoring with a two yard run in the first half. Bobby Mitchell caught a 17 yard pass from Sonny Jurgensen late in the third to put Washington ahead. Concannon tied it earlier for Chicago with a one yard run. The drive featured a driving rainstorm throughout the first half.

Bert Greene fired a four-under-par 66 to reach 204 after 54 holes at Westchester, extending his lead to four strokes in the $250,000 classic at Westchester Country Club. Bolt and a group of challengers stood tied at 208, while several rivals followed in the crowded leaderboard with 209s and 210s. The fourth annual Cedar Hills 16 inch slow pitch tournament will be held August 16 and 17 at Cherry Hill park. It is a 12 team double elimination event with rounds Saturday starting 4 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The championship is at 6 p.m. First prize is 100 dollars, second 50, third 35, fourth 25. Oakland Wins 5-4 as Jackson Hits 41st HR

Reggie Jackson tied the game with his 41st homer in the ninth to spark a 5-4 Oakland win over Boston. Dick Green delivered the bases loaded single in the 11th after Jackson drew a walk to start the inning. Rico Petrocelli hit his 27th for Boston, while Oakland tallied on Cater and Green in the fourth and Campaneris in the eighth to trim the deficit before the late rally.

Iowan Qualifies For U.S. Track

Scott Noltensmeier of Waterloo Iowa qualified for the national AAU Junior Olympics by winning the 120 yard high hurdles at the Region 7 meet in Omaha Neb. His time was 14.7 seconds. He was the Iowa team lone nationals qualifier, as the team finished runner up to a Midwestern Nebraska and western Iowa combined squad.

Vikings Rally Past Dolphins In Exhibition Win

In Tampa, the Minnesota Vikings erased a 10-0 deficit to beat the Miami Dolphins 45-10 behind Joe Kapp passing. Bob Grim and Bill Brown scored in the second quarter, Dave Osborne added a 10-yard TD, and Fred Cox kicked a 25-yard field goal to cap the first half. Gary Cuozzo added a one-yard score in the third as the Vikings pulled away.
