Light weight oats dominate Cedar Rapids shipment
Commodity records show 80 percent of new oats at Cedar Rapids Friday weighed under 32 pounds to the bushel with many as light as 21 pounds. Crown rust and heat reduced yields across Iowa, with specific varieties like Boone and Control showing better resistance while Gopher and Vanguard fared poorly. Feed guidance suggests using light oats for breeding hog stock rather than fattening.
