Rock Society Aids Iowa Patio Map For State Fair
Cedar Valley Rock and Mineral Society members meet in Marion to help the Iowa bicentennial commission craft a patio map of Iowa for the 1977 state fair. A 1000 pound fossil rock was found west of Palo by Melvin Abernathy, who plans to have it moved to Des Moines this week. Linn county replica will be cut to a two to one scale and measure 24 by 3 by 12 inches, weighing 500 to 600 pounds once finished.

Cedar Rapids man gets five year suspended term in 1975 assault case
A Linn County judge reduced a 20 year sentence for Robert Owen Young of Cedar Rapids to five years suspended. Young pled guilty to assault with intent to commit a felony and received five years suspended, with a concurrent five year suspended term on kidnapping. Charles D. Kramer was acquitted of kidnapping charges.

Cedar Rapids Man Sentenced 20 Years For Burglary
George Edward Washington of 931 Old Marion Road NE was sentenced by Linn District Judge Robert Osmundson to 20 years in Fort Madison for the March 31 burglary of a Cedar Rapids residence. He overruled a motion for a new trial and then moved to withdraw a guilty plea in a second case involving a break in at Keeners Furniture.

Two Arrested On Intoxication and Additional Charges
Police arrested two youths early Sunday after witnesses saw them staggering on First Avenue NE. John Overly, 19, and Mary Lou Medulan, 18, faced intoxication charges with Medulan charged for possession of marijuana and prescription drugs. Overly allegedly kicked an officer and resisted during booking. Bond set at 3375 for Overly. Medulan remained jailed on 3625 bond. Separate arrest: John Wilks, 25, charged with two counts of assault and battery at 3:63 am, allegedly attacking Goldie and George Lanfair in their home. Wilks posted 125 bond.
