White Elephant savored, moved not razed in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation Commission approves moving the two story White Elephant building rather than demolish it. The planned path runs from 1010 Third St. SE to 13814 Second St. SE then to 1305 Third St. SE with renovations for commercial, residential and office use. The DeBooms, Save CR Heritage, and city officials push to complete approvals by May 9 to avoid demolition while meeting federal guidelines and grant rules.
