Federal green light for first offshore wind farm off Cape Cod
The Obama administration approves Cape Wind as the nations first offshore wind project 130 turbines to be built in Nantucket Sound. Opponents including Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe vow lawsuits citing sacred burial sites. supporters say it will boost renewable energy and jobs. The project targets power by 2012 and could supply a large share of Cape Cod, with DOE forecasting four percent of national generating capacity by 2030.
