Legislature Adopts About Half of Blue's Proposals
Des Moines reports that about half of Gov. Robert Blue's recommendations to the Fifty second General Assembly were enacted. Major reforms on government reorganization largely fell short, while specific measures such as expanding the tax assessing system and limiting exemptions for fraternal groups passed. The income tax adjustment proposal was not adopted as a permanent policy, though a year only forgiveness was approved. Additional actions included funds for a governor's mansion, a salary raise, road funding increases, a mental health authority, and safety and road law reforms.
