A 9 week old yellow and white male cat is available for adoption at the Linn County Humane Society shelter on Mount Vernon Road SE. The shelter hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Police say four arrests were made at 803 17th St SE after a dawn raid by Metro Narcotics. Christine Nieto, 24, faced multiple drug and weapon counts, while Mac Gibson 41 Willie Hillsman 39 and Christina Gretten 33 were charged with heroin and marijuana possession and delivery. Officers seized heroin, amphetamines, marijuana and a scale along with other substances.
Dale Marti told Linn County police that his girlfriend Gloria Hoover shot herself before she died on February 17. The statement was noted in a Linn District Court ruling regarding Marti who faces charges of unauthorized possession of a sawed off shotgun. Hoover, 26, resided at 317 H Ave NW.
The council signed agreements with the Iowa City Railway Co to upgrade warning signals at two Bowling Street crossings between 43rd and 50th avenues, with an estimated 80 000 project cost half locally funded and bids expected later this year. State funds will cover remaining costs.
Ann Schrader reports a public hearing on the proposed 1978 paving program with seven sections, three facing objections. The project totals 513500.37 dollars with city share 380554.97 and assessed cost 146239.94. Several streets and alleys are listed for paving, including Locust Road SW and Wiley Boulevard NW. Mr and Mrs Allen Pedersen of Locust Road SW speak to the council.
Area residents oppose paving Locust Road arguing the 33 foot width will raise traffic and unfairly burden them. City Engineer Dick Ransom defends the standard size and future traffic needs while Streets Commissioner Dick Phillips cites a 90 percent area owner petition and industrial development plans. A 30 foot easement on 21st Avenue SW faces objections from a property owner, with written protests from Mr and Mrs Raymond Johnson at 4129 East Avenue NW about Wiley Boulevard NW paving.
Tim Virden of 1245 Elmhurst Drive files a lawsuit in U S District Court in Cedar Rapids alleging defraud by the former owner of a sports car bought last year after a misleading odometer reading.

Barry Norris admitted uncertainty about actual mileage and Virden sues for 7500 dollars after 2500 in damages for diminished value and repairs, citing federal odometer fraud liability.
