State Medical Group Convenes At Des Moines

The Iowa State Medical Society opens its three day annual convention in Des Moines with keynote speakers Dr. Walter B. Martin of Norfolk Virginia and Dr. R N Larimer of Sioux City. The Sunday meeting approved many life memberships for prominent Iowa physicians across multiple cities.

Brooklyn Attorney V. M. Reed Dies at 79

Brooklyn attorney V. M. Reed, 79, who practiced for 55 years, dies at home after a long illness. Funeral services set for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bramer funeral home. Survived by wife, a son, and two daughters. Reed was a former president of the district bar association and a delegate to a state convention. He also interviewed GOP gubernatorial candidates.

Cletus J. Offerman 24, son of Mr and Mrs Clem Offerman Masonville, killed in an auto accident 90 miles east of Barstow California. A Ryan native, he farmed with his parents, served in Korea, discharged 1953, then lived in Glendale. Tax and Accounting Seminar Set at Iowa University

About 75 Iowa accountants are expected to attend the first annual tax and accounting seminar at the University of Iowa May 3-4. Fairfax Cracks Down On Traffic Violators

Fairfax Mayor Joseph Petrzelka warned motorists that speeding and stop sign violations will be charged and brought to court. With warmer weather, he urged extra caution as children play outside and may dart into streets from parked vehicles.

Seven Killed In Weekend Car Mishaps

The Associated Press reports seven Iowans died in weekend crashes, raising Iowa road deaths for 1954 to 168. Victims include Charles Archer near Villisca, Verl Lovell of Fairfield, Edward Terrell Jr. of Sioux City, Edward Haase of Denison, Mark Fuller of Osceola, Trace Pershing near Clarinda, and Roger Davis of State Center.

Japanese Send Young Cherry Trees to Iowa

Four teen young cherry trees gifts from Japan will be planted on the Iowa statehouse lawn May 6 as thanks for an Iowa sponsored church. The University Christian Church of Iowa near Tokyo will be dedicated May 9. Tree planting will be done by representatives of 14 denominations in the Japanese church program. Governor Beardsley will greet and Rev. Gerald Ensely will speak.

School Plays and Banquet Highlight Area Schools

Earlville seniors present two one act plays Tuesday night in the school gym. Quasqueton seniors spent the weekend at Lake Ozark Missouri and were to return Monday evening. Springville junior senior banquet was held Friday at the Montrose hotel in Cedar Rapids.

Fire destroys Delta one story house of Gilchrists

The frame house of Mr and Mrs Francis Gilchrist in Delta burned Friday. Fire left the building a total loss though some household belongings were saved. What Cheer firemen aided the Delta department in fighting the blaze.

Des Moines Police raid nets 32 arrests at sneak liquor joint

Des Moines police and the state narcotics bureau arrested 32 people at a sneak liquor joint in a house described by officers as a disorderly venue. Among those held were musicians at a jam session and Orville Cox and his wife facing charges for operating a disorderly house with hearings set for May 11. Bond ranged from 100 to 400 dollars. several pled guilty and were fined. A .22 revolver was found in Coxs car leading to an additional weapon charge.

Work began last week on a new residence for Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Boley in the north end of town. The project marks a fresh housing addition to the North English area, reflecting local growth.

Drama Festival Slated at ISTC

Cedar Falls to host the twenty first Iowa State Teachers College drama conference. A matinee production of The Crucible by Arthur Miller will be staged on campus next Saturday with high school students and speech teachers from across Iowa invited. Activities include greetings by Dr. H. W. Reninger, addresses by Stanley Wood and Hazel Strayer, a director’s meeting at 11 am, campus tours, a conference luncheon at noon, and a 2:15 pm curtain. The College Players will host visitors in the drama shop after the performance.

New Custodian Named For Pike's Peak Park
