Produce plant in Central City burns and spreads

A fire at the Central City produce plant and warehouse, subsidiary of Independence Produce, destroyed the south end of a Hatch cabinet shop and damaged nearby homes. Three truckloads of live chickens were removed, while water from a Marion booster pump saved the Hatch shop and residence. Sparks from the tar roof threatened surrounding properties as flames spread through the center of the building.

Webb jailed in county case tied to Fairbank robbery

James Webb, jailed on a breaking and entering charge after the Fairbank elevator theft. Hamilton county officials and C. J. Spanier traced the stolen trailer to Spanier’s Williams yard. Lincoln telegrams claim Webb's car was transferred on April 15 by a man with a false address. Webb awaits arraignment and possible surrender for a heavier charge.

Fire destroys residence near Clutier leaves couple homeless

The home of Mr and Mrs Celestine Webeter three and one half miles south of Clutier was burned Tuesday evening. The blaze likely started from the kitchen stove or chimney sparks. The Webeters had recently married and most furniture was new with minimal insurance. They reside in a temporary mobile house on the farm owned by James Webeter, the groom’s father.
