Obituary of Msgr. James D. Kearn Cedar Rapids pastor dies
Msgr. James D. Kearn, 78, longtime St Matthew's parish pastor in Cedar Rapids, died after a long illness. He retired Jan 16, 1966, served much of his priesthood locally, born June 15, 1892 in Nashville. Ordained June 1, 1919, he held positions in Fairbank and Cedar Rapids before becoming St Matthew's pastor in 1934. The parish grew from 80 to 700 families and rebuilt church, school, and rectory. Services Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St Matthew's with concelebration and wake at Stewart Funeral Home.
