Two possible tornadoes were forecast for southwest Iowa before 8 p.m. amid cool, rainy weather. Cedar Rapids reported 0.38 inches of rain and a 51 degree reading, with southeast winds to 25 mph.
Gen. MacArthur told Sen. Byrd that bombing China could push the Soviet Union to settle the Korean conflict and other global issues. American soldiers on rotation after May 1 will have shorter trips home by four to seven days. Transports will depart Korea and go directly to U S ports bypassing Japan, saving about 1.5 million dollars annually and 8,000 man months in time, the army said.
At a circus in Washington Kitty Oriol a 24 year old aerialist from Les Oriols of Denmark fainted while hanging from a cable 50 feet above the ring. Fellow performer Dave Oriol hung by a trapeze while Mathias Coronas climbed a ladder and carried Kitty to the ground. A circus physician said heat likely caused the fainting in the Shrine benefit show.
A 24 year old Boeing mechanic Roger Rondeau stowed away on a test flight. An engine exploded causing the flight to crash 70 miles from Fort Lewis. Ten crew members parachuted to safety. The pilot Capt Charles Cresswell said the stowaway was unknown to the crew and there was no parachute for him.
Hollywood nightclub owner Charlie Morrison sued former actress Marion Davies for 12000 dollars claiming the amount covers food and drink at a Beverly Hills party held last October for his daughter Marilyn and new husband Johnny Ray. Morrison operated the Mocambo and catered the event. the couple have since separated.
