DES MOINES UP The Iowa senate approved the departmental budget bill setting a $9 712 781 annual appropriation for the next biennium The body added amendments boosting total by 2 095 875 over the house figure The bill minus school aid stood at 7 616 907 before amendments and school aid was later handled in another measure Strong increases included 68 900 for public safety 500 to 4500 for bureau of criminal investigation chief Nethergall and 2 000 000 to the old age assistance fund The overall old age fund would total 12 000 000 under the senate plan Other changes added 20 000 for hotel and restaurant inspection 400 for the insurance commissioner salary 6009 total and 1 080 more for the industrial commission budget plus 3 750 for supreme court judges and 400 for the labor commissioner to 4 000 There was little debate and the vote was unanimous with section by section consideration and a 7 055 378 committee recommendation

A total of $3085 raised by Cedar Rapids residents of Greek ancestry has been turned over to Russell Manatt, treasurer of the Greek war relief drive. The drive, though officially closed weeks ago, still has unread envelopes from Cedar Rapids industrial plants to be turned in.

The Public Welfare Bureau adds Mrs. Samuel A. Johnson of 1118 B avenue NW as bureau stenographer. The staff now includes Mrs. Shirley Bechtel as manager, Mrs. Julia DeWitt as bookkeeper, Betty Grahm as stenographer for the Council of Social Planning, and Mrs. Johnson.

Everett E Walton of San Francisco was fined 25 dollars and costs after pleading guilty to reckless driving before Justice H R Churchill Tuesday night. Highway patrolmen said Walton traveled on Highway 30 west of Cedar Rapids at a high rate of speed and passed another car on a grade.

Man and Woman Plea On Morals Charges

Mrs. Jessie Waterbury and Clayton Brolliar, both of 1309 Fifteenth street SE, were arrested on Linn county bench warrants charging lewdness. A second warrant accuses Brolliar of lascivious acts with a minor. Arraigned before Lloyd Philbrick, Waterbury pled not guilty with $500 bond. Brolliar pled not guilty to lascivious acts, bond $1,000. he has until Friday at 10 a.m. to plead on lewdness. bail set at $500.
