Waste-to-energy plan eyed for Linn County landfill

A Fort Collins company proposed a stand alone waste-to-energy plant for Linn County at 45 to 52 million dollars. The facility would burn 500 to 600 tons daily, reduce waste by 90 percent, and create steam or electricity with tipping fees around 38 to 42 dollars per ton. Bluestem officials note recycling costs and legal issues for burning recyclables. Barmore said ash would go to the existing landfill, extending its life 30 to 50 years, while operation could employ 20 to 25 workers and be highly automated.
