Cedar Rapids Marine Dies in California Crash
A 20-year-old Cedar Rapids marine Lance Cpl. Timothy J. Nelson was killed Friday in a car truck collision near Holtville California. Son of Mr and Mrs Stanley Nelson he was born August 13 1949 and attended Washington High before enlisting in 1966. He served two Vietnam tours and had recently been assigned to Camp Pendleton. Police say his car ran a stop sign and hit a truck at a state highway Holtville street intersection. Mrs Nelson said the family was informed Saturday by their other son Thomas who lives in California. The Nelsons have six children. Services are pending at Turner Chapel East.
