Grass Fire Foe Overcomes Cedar Rapids Firefighter

Pair Nabbed at Airport With Drug Charges Filed
Two Marshalltown brothers and University of Iowa students were arrested at Cedar Rapids airport by city police. Daniel Gervich 21 faces bondable counts for possession of prescription drugs and marijuana and possession of obscene literature Berkeley Barb. Douglas Gervich 19 is held on bond for improper registration. Detectives acted on a tip around 8 15 p m and found marijuana in a car glove box and in Daniel's person.

Cornell Chamber Music Concert Wins Plaudits
The 71st Cornell Music Festival featured the Montgomery Chamber Ensemble delivering polished chamber works at King Chapel. William Montgomery led the group with virtuosic flute passages in Mozart and Bartok arrangements, complemented by Ellsworths and Ervin Klink. The program included a modern duo for violin and flute, the quartet’s The Greater Trumps, Beethoven Trio in C minor, and Bartok Hungarian songs. The Houston Symphony Orchestra under Andre Previn closes the festival at 2:30 p.m. today in the fieldhouse.

Assault Charge Follows Fight at Wilson Avenue
Charles Purdy age 22 of 1244 Wilson Avenue SW was arrested on a warrant charging assault with intent to do great bodily harm after a fight at 1248 Wilson Avenue SW Saturday night. Dorothy McDaniel 46 of the latter address was treated and released at Mercy Hospital for injuries. James Gatewood 21 of 1821 Seventh Avenue SE was also involved. The warrant was issued in Justice Glenn Powers court. Purdy posted a $500 bond.

Beer Violation Charges Against Three Minors
Three young people were arrested by Cedar Rapids police on beer charges Saturday night and released after posting $30 bonds. Susan D. Taylor, 19, of Kellogg, and Curtis M. Annett, 19, of Memorial drive SE, were arrested at Sixteenth avenue and Eighteenth street SW on charges of possessing beer as minors. Marvin Jenkens, 20, of Waterloo, was charged with attempting to buy beer at a Party Lane store.

The blaze began from a trouble light that ignited wallpaper in the rear around 7 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Herman Frueh said a church barbecue had been held there earlier.
