DES MOINES Iowa senate vote 26 17 to table an amendment allowing parochial and private school children to ride public school buses ends efforts to attach the measure to a safety standards bill. Gov Ray supported the proposal but the tactic failed, making revival unlikely this year or in 1970. Senator Walsh criticized Crawfordsville Senator Stephens and others over the clash, while parliamentary questions about bill carryover linger.

Infant Revived After Choking Incident in NW City

Six month old Greg Platz, son of Mr and Mrs Michael Platz, was in good condition at Mercy Hospital after apparently choking and stopping breathing Friday night. Neighbor Thomas Strickler rushed the infant to Fire Station No 3 and firefighters administered oxygen before the ambulance carried him to the hospital.

Alaska natives told education mishandled study cited

Ralph Perdue, president of the Fairbanks Native Association, said Alaska native education has been mishandled and underfunded after a six year study. Sen Kennedy led a hearing on Indian education in Fairbanks, with Sen Mondale among few to complete the Alaska trip, while three GOP members left early amid staff memo controversy. Mason City Editor W Earl Hall Dies at 72

W Earl Hall, longtime Globe-Gazette editor publisher and Mason City resident, died after hospital admission. He led the paper for over two decades and later worked with his son Reeves Hall at Independence Bulletin Journal.
