Canton Illinois merchant policeman Floyd Morse spotted a suspicious truck on Route 78. He chased it at high speed when the burglars dumped a 250-pound safe on the highway and fled. The safe held several thousand dollars taken from the Hub Tavern operated by James Rice.
Iowa forecast mostly cloudy and cool with scattered snow flurries. City notes include divorces and birth announcements. Obituaries list Ella Eddy and Mary McClain among services and funeral plans across Independence Manchester Anamosa Monticello Jesup.
President Juan D. Peron faces a new government crisis after a four hour emergency cabinet meeting and talk of resignations. The General Labor Confederation plans a Plaza de Mayo rally next Wednesday to show support, with a citywide halt in activity for workers to attend. Peron will address the crowd.
United Nations guests included Trygve Lie and Dag Hammarskjold as guests of honor. Soviet and satellite delegates boycotted the farewell dinner on Lie’s departure. Lie said dictators branded him enemy and that a secretary general must choose between the dictator and the Free World.
Paul E. Embretson of Tiffin was arraigned in Iowa City on a drunk driving charge. He waived preliminary hearing, bound over to the grand jury, and released on a $500 bond. Embretson was arrested around 1130 p.m. Friday on Highway 6 near Iowa City.
Mary Rozek Hronik 88 of 114 Sixteenth Avenue SW Cedar Rapids died at 5 30 p m Saturday after a brief illness. Born December 31 1864 in Bohemia she was widow of Frank Hronik. Survived by daughter Mrs LeRoy Klersey two sons Joseph J and Frank A Hronik three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services Tuesday at 9 a m at St Wenceslaus Church with burial in St Johns Cemetery Rosary 7 30 p m Monday at Brush Chapel friends may call.

Bert Edwards Sheets, lifelong Palo resident, died at his home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at Turner chapel at 10:30 a.m. Monday conducted by Rev T A Nickum of the Seventh Day Adventist church. Burial will be in Palo cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.

Cedar Rapids police booked Grover Cleveland Foggy 55 of 107 Thirteenth Street SE on a drunk driving charge Saturday night. Town Marshal E Gill of Mt. Vernon tipped off authorities about a possible drunk driver on Highway 30. Arrest occurred at Mt. Vernon Road and Twenty Fourth Street SE.
Mrs. Mamie Eisenhower crowned Janet Kay Bailey of Akron Ohio as Queen of the Cherry Blossoms at the Jefferson Memorial. The 18 year old Ohio State student received a rhinestone tiara from the First Lady as warm weather accompanied the festival and there were no cherry blossoms on the trees.
In Paris, Saar outline proposes six points to become the European federal center and seat of the Schuman plan. It seeks a referendum with neutral observers, a consul general in place of France’s embassy, and maintained Franco Saar economic ties until a European union forms.
In Seoul an unidentified light plane dropped two 100 pound bombs on U S 10th corps headquarters near the eastern front Saturday night. There were no damages or casualties. The incident prompted an alert but was not followed by anti aircraft fire.

John Pitko III, 244, was alone in a delivery truck that rolled down a steep hill and plunged over a 50 foot embankment, landing upside down on railroad tracks beside the Kansas River. He escaped injury.
