Cedar Rapids embraces a new satirical T-shirt shop as it tests bounds of humor. Raygun owner Mike Draper cites abundant material from Mount Trashmore, Crunch Berry Day, busy quadrants, speed cameras, train backups and a temperamental river, aiming to laughingly reflect the community.
Raygun expands to Cedar Rapids at Third Street and 11th Avenue SE bringing a trendy outlet shared by Des Moines origins in 2005. Hours run 10 am to 6 pm weekdays and Saturdays, noon to 4 pm Sundays as local leaders hype the store to attract millennials.
Dan Claflin a retired Rockwell Collins employee in Cedar Rapids laughs at the shirt message. Brad Beardsley who works at Brewhemia in Cedar Rapids notes it has been eight years since the 2008 flood and says people are comfortable discussing it. Suzi Kamerling a GoDaddy employee in Cedar Rapids feels the shirt is an inside joke that makes wearers feel connected.
Senator Grassley defended a Republican Senate Senate block on Merrick Garland while President Obama pressed for confirmation. He cited 41 GOP votes needed to block action and said 52 of 54 Republicans remain committed. Grassley planned a Tuesday breakfast with Garland to explain the stance.
Terrence Neuzil, longtime Johnson County Supervisor, quits after 107 days as Kalamazoo County administrator amid a disclosed scandal. He cites false allegations and alleges mishandling of employee relations, accusing the county government of unethical conduct and policy violations. Neuzil had started December 21 and stepped down Tuesday.
