Bad timing for Oregon gas tax vote
Voters on May 16 face a nickel per gallon gas tax hike to fund road repairs amid nationwide price pain. Oregon sells gas at about $1.78 to $2.00 per gallon as a coalition of governments and businesses advocates raising the rate from 24 to 29 cents to fix deteriorating roads and ease congestion. Opponents doubt passage amid high prices and widespread commuter concerns.
