ALOT announced a $15 million bond plan to jump start repairs in the Cedar Rapids school system, aiming to fund a new elementary school and heating and ventilation fixes. The proposal envisions a 10 year program generating about $89 million with the PPEL and bond mix, replacing the current levy that expires in 2005.
The plan moves the instructional support levy from funding books, computers, labs, all day kindergarten, reading instruction and staff development to the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy. It projects 30.8 million in added PPEL funds from 2003 to 2010 with two voter checkpoints in 2003 and 2005.
