Corn spikes to 6 a bushel as supply fears mount
U.S. corn futures hit a record six dollars a bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade amid forecasts of shrinking 2008 plantings and worsening supply. Analysts warn higher costs will lift grocery prices and hit ethanol producers as demand persists. The USDA projects an 8 percent drop in acres planted, while cold wet conditions may delay planting further.

Iowa study backs combined corporate reporting for big firms
A Gazette summary reports Iowa firms largely operate where combined reporting is required. The Iowa Fiscal Partnership study notes eight of 34 large manufacturers have facilities in states with such rules, including Archer Daniels Midland, Kraft Foods, Deere, and Cargill. Proponents urge closing loopholes to protect education and social programs amid potential revenue gains.
