Natural gas turned into dynamite surprise in US science
AP reports at Purdue and the American Chemical Society reveal a new chemical synthesis that converts natural gas into explosive compounds that can substitute for nitroglycerine in dynamite. The process uses methane or ethane, formaldehyde treatment, and air derived nitrogen, with Hercules Powder producing the result in Delaware. The method is touted as cheap and wartime friendly due to glycerine shortages and food-use concerns.
