House fire kills mother and son in Iowa
In Sioux Rapids an early morning blaze destroyed a two story wooden house killing Fern Nixon 55 and David Nixon 15. Police Chief Ron Hott said the fire started at 3 20 a.m. and was reported 20 minutes later by son Michael Nixon 18 who escaped to relatives nearby. Fire Chief Russ Roberts was treated for an unknown issue at a local hospital.

Drowning Incident Near Riverton In High Winds
Christopher Tan Nguyen, 28, of Council Bluffs, drowned when a canoe capsized in 30 feet of water at a Fremont County farm pond south of Riverton. Another man, John McCarthy of Omaha, was treated for exposure after attempting a rescue.
