University campus hit by power outage emergency

Outage leader Thomas Hoogerwerf, district manager for Iowa Illinois, said supplying the campus with electricity isn’t a problem and that all can be supplied. In the emergency, many buildings closed Friday afternoon including the main library at 3 pm. Heat water and power were lost in numerous facilities and two university radio stations WSUI and KSUI were off air until power is restored.

Flood Watch Issued for Southeast Iowa Areas

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for southeast Iowa overnight as another inch or two of rain was forecast. The Cedar River at Cedar Rapids rose slowly to 6.32 feet, with flood stage at 13 feet, while the affected area stretched from Chariton and Corydon to Lake Rathbun Ottumwa and Cedar Rapids.
