Simplified Iowa tax plan fails in House committee
In Des Moines AP report the simplified state income tax bill would replace federal rules, affect filers below 4000 dollars, 4000 to 20000 would pay less, over 20000 more. It would use a post card form, Gov. Ray favored. The measure drew 24 votes, short of 29 needed to pass Ways and Means, despite debate. Revenue officials say the change would not greatly alter overall collections.
