Luther student kills neighbor then takes own life

A northeast Iowa college student Steven Sparrgrove age 18 is accused with killing his teenage neighbor Jennifer Zink age 16 with an ax handle and a .22 rifle before dying by suicide at his father's apartment in Potosi Wisconsin. Authorities report no motive and note both were classmates and neighbors. Counseling services were arranged at Potosi High School and Luther College as communities cope with the tragedy.

Woman who lost monkeys given animal-care license

Sue Kriz of Shueyville has been granted an animal care license by the USDA on March 12 allowing her to buy sell replace and stock animals at a facility on her property. The 50 malnourished monkeys seized in December 1995 were placed in sanctuaries and new homes after veterinary care at the University of Iowa. Authorities and the sheriff’s office expressed surprise at the license grant.
