Contractors sue IDOT over bid-rigging rules

A group of Iowa road contractors led by Associated General Contractors of Iowa filed a federal lawsuit in Des Moines challenging a December rule by the Iowa Department of Transportation that bars firms from bidding on road projects if indicted on price fixing charges. The suit contends the rule applies before conviction or acquittal, while IDOT notes no Iowa company has been disqualified. Indicted Nebraska firms and an unindicted co-conspirator are named in related actions. A Des Moines special grand jury is examining the Iowa case with indictments not expected before June.
