The archdiocese reports 55 more Sunday Masses this year bringing total to 1,192 across parishes and institutions. Montgomery county Dayton leads with 348 attendees per Mass and Clarke with 342, while six rural counties show lower Mass attendance suggesting urban migration.
The Chancery reports Sunday Mass attendance averages 274,000 in the archdiocese this year with Holy Angels Dayton and St Teresa Cincinnati among top parishes. Ryan and Father William Franer join in leading sessions on public relations and school problems with Dr. Raymond McCoy guiding an afternoon discussion.
In Cincinnati Catholics faced confusion over a book from St. Benedict's Center Cambridge mass led by Father Feeney whose strict view on salvation outside the church was rejected by Rome. Young men in religious garb sold the book in downtown offices causing numerous calls to chancery and parish offices as readers sought guidance before these sales moved to Dayton.
The Most Reverend Archbishop orders a prayer for the Pope inserted into Masses across the Cincinnati archdiocese throughout December. The prayer will be added wherever rubrics permit as part of Pope's day observance on Sunday December 21.
A Cincinnati parish held a regular Sunday Mass with about 400 attendees but the church emptied quickly after the postcommunion prayer. Observers noted late arrivals, lingering prayers, and some departures for sundry activities while others remained for thanksgiving and reflection.
The University of Dayton will award Father Patrick Peyton C S C founder of the Family Rosary Crusade the 1952 Marian award. The silver plaque will be presented Wednesday December 10 at 11 am in the UD fieldhouse. Father Peyton is a Holy Cross priest and hosts the Family Theater program on a national network from Hollywood.
Religious vocation day programs for Catholic students will be held Friday November 28. An exhibit on the plan for priesthood and congregations of priests and brothers will be at Purcell high school. An exhibit on sisters congregations at Regina high school. Parents and others may visit the exhibits at 730 pm.
