The Glenmary Sisters a community of religious women affiliated with Home Missioners of America were officially recognized as a congregation by the Holy See. This canonical establishment marks a significant milestone for the Glenmary Sisters and their mission.
Archbishop Karl J. Alter presided July 16 at the Glenmary mother-house Glendale as the Glenmary Sisters were canonically erected under Diocesan Right supervision. The Sisters may now take vows and enjoy rights of religious persons. Training by Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Mich., continues at 1950 Madison Road Cincinnati with novitiate duties.

Catholic high school students in the archdiocese earned hundreds of prizes and honors over the past year. They won scholarships to Xavier University Dayton Our Lady of Cincinnati college Mt. St. Joseph University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati College of Music among others. Winners appeared in district and county American Legion contests and a $350 prize in the Ohio Hospital Association essay contest. One school topped in national art competition with 17 first places and captured the Cincinnati city football title. Another school won first in a city spelling contest across all four high school grades. The mayoral ties to Boys and Girls Week also trace to Catholic schools.
Monsignor Conrad H. Boffa assistant chancellor of the Cincinnati archdiocese will lead a seven day pilgrimage to two Canadian shrines next month. The group will visit the Shrine of St. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec and the Shrine of Brother Andre in Montreal. The pilgrimage will begin in Montreal on Aug. 9.
Marie Therese McDermit from Nanty-Glo Pennsylvania, a 26 year old nurse and lay missionary to Africa, will sail from New York to Johannesburg in the fall to join Grailville trained mission apostles in Rivonia. Gifts for the Rivonia Catholic apostolate center include bedding kitchenware and religious books for a community kitchen. The shower celebrated her path toward medical missionary work with support from St Margaret of Cortona's hall.
