The Jesuit order marks four centuries since the death of its founder on July 3 1556 later canonized in 1622. For 400 years the Society has grown across the globe with 26 752 members serving worldwide. The order operates foreign missions and runs more than 50 000 high schools educating around 17 000 students per year.

The Home Missioners of America opened their fifth rural mission center sending Fathers Edward Smith and Joseph W. Dean and Brother Vincent Wilmes to Norton Virginia to serve six western counties in Wise County. The territory with 171 000 people is mountainous and largely mining and has fewer than 200 Catholics with two churches in Norton and Appalachia. The new center operates under Bishop John J. St Martin's Chapel in Springfield reports 55 baptisms since June 1943, marking visible progress of the Missionary Apostolate among Colored Catholics in the archdiocese. Nine Colored parishes have formed, with Cincinnati hosting seven, plus College Hill Lockland Hamilton Dayton and age field. The St Martin's pastor notes harmony with White parishioners and pride in active faith participation. Acknowledgment is given for an 18.80 stamp donation from Estelle Fell.
Members of the St More Society of America will hold a luncheon at the Plaza hotel on Thursday the 20th at 12 30 p m. The program includes a review of Thomas More by James Ill of Cincinnati and Brendan F. Brown of the School of Catholic University. The meeting is under the direction of the canon and ei group with former Judge Empsey as chairman. A modern pipe organ built by August Prante of Louisville will be installed at St. Louis church next month, transferred from St. Anthony’s monastery Mt Airy. Alfred Morrison and August Wittrock will install, while a smaller reed organ replaces the monastery’s organ. George Witte leads the new choir with Brady, Rohan, Brinkmoeller and others. The move enables more elaborate programs and follows the Newman club debut at St Mary’s Church.
Will Benefit Hospital observes annual St Nicholas Donation days for St Francis hospital in Cincinnati. St Anthony Aid society sponsors gifts including cash food linens bedding and canned goods for the Little Sisters of St Francis who operate the hospital. Mrs Ella Vorwerck leads the society and donations may be sent to the hospital headquarters on Queen City Avenue or picked up by calling WA 6679.
Dayton de Paul council outlines an expanded postwar program including jobs for high school boys and boarding for infants. A Montgomery county fair Catholic literature booth drew hundreds of non Catholics, with 9000 pieces distributed and few discarded. The effort, supported by the Legion of Mary and Rev. Roger Griese, involved a $300 literature expenditure to illuminate Catholicism for the public.
A local food drive in Wyoming collected canned milk to aid families facing hunger. The effort, organized near St James Church, received support from the Walsh family and church leaders as part of a broader campaign.
In Buchheit parish a High Mass will be offered at 1 0 o'clock as the community prepares for an in church Christmas service. Ark of milk shipments totaling 60 720 cans will help meet the archdiocesan goal of 226 tons of food. Children donate milk due to limits on other canned goods. Monsignor Kramer directs the drive with letters to pastors and plans for warehouse storage and collection centers.
A books collection valued at 2000 dollars was donated to Our Lady of Cincinnati college by John P. Hickey of 6223 Bona Vista Place Cincinnati. The supported set includes over 100 titles with indexed coverage of Cincinnati history and art events of the past 15 years including World War II.
Cancellation of the Catholic Position radio program on WKRC scheduled for Sunday December 2 prompted statements from WKRC officials Archdiocese Chancellor Monsignor Clarence Issenmann and Father Albin Ratermann. WKRC manager H E Fast said changes were suggested to the script which was deemed highly controversial. The archdiocese said no change request was made to manuscript and rights of labor discussions were not desirable at this time. WKRC director Judson J McKim said he initiated the program and appointed Father Ratermann as Catholic chairman.
Major John E. Duffy and former Cincinnati Crusade leader endured captivity in a Japanese camp and nine months undercover with Philippine guerrillas. He survived the Bataan death march and received the Purple Heart early in the war. Lt. Harry Johnson photographed him at the Crusade castle in Cincinnati last week. The image shows Duffy at a war tour base in Kansas.
Official letter dated December 8 1945 states the station wished to air a dialogue with Fathers Fianc an and Berthe but the plan is postponed due to pastoral duties. The message notes several reasons for non participation and references a diocesan report.

Sister Mother Francis Sullivan of the Sacred Heart died December 4 at Villa Duchesne Clayton Missouri. She served as mother superior at Clifton Cincinnati from 1928 to 1935 and later worked with Colored missions in New Orleans and Grand Cateau Louisiana.
Bishop William T. Mulloy of Covington spoke at Mt. St. Mary’s seminary urging priests to embrace rural apostolate as a primary mission. He argued country parishes are vital, calling for intellectual and spiritual leadership, and cited women’s wartime sacrifices as inspiration for vocations to religious life.
The 80 voice choir from Oury of Cincinnati college will perform The First Christmas cantata by Fenno and Coerne on Tuesday evening December 18 at 8 15. The program includes Christmas carols in Frac Belgian Polish and English selections led by Miss Mary Cather with an audience reception to follow.
