Red Pressure Eases on Berlin Priests After Ban Lift
The Communist regime lifts a ban on newly ordained priests trained in West Germany and allows West Germany stationed clergy to serve in the Soviet zone. The move reduces priest shortages for over 2,000,000 Catholics but the Central Committee gives no hope for improved church state relations, preserving limits on Christian education, a free Catholic press, and religious activities. Only two seminaries operate.
