Big day in Douglas brings fair, baseball duel with Casper

Nearly 200 locals rode a special train to the fair’s last day in Douglas and watched a tight high school baseball game against Casper. Douglas led to 7 5, Casper surged to win 9 7. awards included a silver cup and medals. The day featured races, exhibitions, donkey wagon rounds, trooper shows, fireworks, and a public dance, with party spirit across the crowd.

Discovery of copper bearing water at Copper mountain reported

Shoshon papers relay a remarkable find by John Cunningham on his Copper mountain Willow Creek claim. A vein of water coated tools with copper and iron immersion precipitates copper, suggesting a low cost method to extract copper from low grade ore. Possible Robbers Cache Linked to 34000 Train Heist

In a case near Laramie two men unearthed about 8100 coins from a cellar tied to W H Taylor. The money was turned to the property owner, then sought by the discoverers. Union Pacific officials suspect the hoard may be part of 34000 stolen from a train years ago and cached.

Record Breaker Shows Massive Wyoming Cattle at Fair

A.J. Tluskey claims a cattle record after slaughtering a 14 month calf that dressed 518 pounds. Raised by W. Kimball on an east town ranch, the healthy yearling was pasture-fed and not finished for market. A 2-year-old butchered at the same time weighed three pounds more than the calf. Spectators recall Wyoming stock on display at the fair last week.

Auto road plan gains city and county support in Casper region

A joint committee of businessmen urged the county commissioners to grade and surface the Stroud ranch to wagon bridge road as a permanent turnpike. The city council agreed to share costs, with J P O Conner to supply a grading outfit. The council also approved purchasing an auto fire truck to improve Casper fire protection, cost about 4500 dollars, with plans to choose a model after contacting suppliers.
