Rocks not dirt will fly soon on Burlington extension

Thermopolis becomes base for supplies and action as McArthur Brothers win the contract to grade forty five miles from Kirby to connect with the Northwestern at Shoshoni. Work starts next week with completion targeted in late summer or early fall next year. The project moves 3 600 000 cubic yards of rock through ten tunnels and camps along the canyon. Thermopolis will house headquarters and about two thirds of supplies. Sub contractors Willis Crosby A A Johnson Patrick O Connor will bid as crews push from all points to meet July 25 start deadline.

Plans for New Opera House by Butler on Center Street

Architect Rhodes drafts plans for a cement and wood opera house on south Center street owned by Alex T. Butler. The 72 by 72 foot hall offers 750 seating, a 30 foot deep stage, eight dressing rooms, balcony and private boxes, plus a fine hard wood dancing floor and a through railroad line prospect to attract first class companies. A crying need for a theatre, the project aims to be a paying proposition if unimpeded.

Short Court Session Behind C H Parmalee

Judge C H Parmalee presided in place of Judge Carpenter in a brief city court session. Most actions were deferred, with bonds for defendants extended to the October term. Mrs Elizabeth Robinson failed to appear, triggering bond cancellation after her larceny conviction and four year sentence on appeal to the supreme court. May Jones and Henry White had posted her 1200 bond. Robinson returned after adjournment, but too late to comply. The judge departed for the Haas country via Thermopolis.

Lobell brothers feud rocks Salt Creek oil frame

A cablegram reports Jos H Lobell jailed in Paris on charges tied to Oil Land fraud in the state. Fred J Lobell is sought from Chicago with requisition papers. A bitter conflict with Petrol eum Maatschappij Salt Creek and other firms slowed outside capital, with hopes for an adjustment and marketable oil prospects.

Daily Paper at Lander Consolidates Two Papers

A merger of the State Journal and Republican at Lander creates a daily paper to be issued. Col Powers and businessmen back the plan with over 15000 dollars subscribed. John W. Cook will manage the paper, an editor will be hired from the east, and a standard Mergenthaler will be installed. AP service arranged to connect western towns with world news.

Bobby Fountain Coming to Town with Big Show

Bobby Fountain is scheduled for Tuesday July 20 with a large dog and pony act by the Gen try Bros. The performance promises trained dogs and ponies acrobatic circus acts and is expected to attract a big crowd, being the closest thing to a full circus this year in the area.

Mp ys i Anna Cusack aged 66 died unexpectedly from apoplexy at 8 p m Sunday in Casper. She moved from Keokuk Iowa to spend the summer with her daughter Mrs Guy Collins. Thief Castleman Captured After Capitol Tip

A man named Frank Castleman, also Hansen, was tracked after a tip from the capitol. He faced Minnesota embezzlement forgery and grand larceny charges, was captured at the V V ranch, resisted with a six gun, and jailed in Cheyenne before transfer to Jackson for trial.

Rock accident injures Clement McDonnell near Angus McPherson haul

Clement McDonnell was seriously injured when a rock fell from a heavy load on a hill startling a horse, causing a plunge and a run away. He was thrown to the ground, suffered a broken arm, a torn scalp, and a bruised leg, then treated in town with recovery time ahead.

Minium returned from Kansas City and offered his resignation as vice president of the Wyoming Consolidated company to focus on developing the Lower Smith Creek property recently purchased from local parties. W. S. Kimball, Casper mayor and major stockholder, was elected to fill the vacancy as plans to form a new company with outside capital proceed.
