Agreement With Marine Workers Signed Today

Washington June 14 Ship ping board officials are understood to have signed today the wage and working conditions agreement with the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association which was signed yesterday by W S Brown president of the association. Efforts were under way to have private ship owners align the agreement to end the nation wide marine strike that began May 1.

The Dominion Board of Fatl ow commissioners announce a 10 per cent reduction in western Canada railroad rates effective July 1. Rates return to levels before September 19 with a new mileage rate of 2.35 cents, while western rates remain unchanged.

John J. Emery Elected American Legion National Commander

John G. Emery of Grand Rapids Michigan was unanimously chosen national commander of the American Legion by the national executive committee in Indianapolis. He succeeds Col Frederick W Galbraith Jr who died in an auto crash last Thursday. Major Emery, born July 4 1881 in Grand Rapids, served in World War I and took part in Cantigny St Mihiel and Meuse Argonne.

Mother saves infant then drowns in Telluride river

In Telluride Colorado a large crowd watched Mrs William Angesiave carry her four month old baby when she slipped from a foot bridge into the San Miguel River. The mother was rescued by picnickers but the baby drowned. The body was later recovered near Placerville miles below.
