Night of terror in Cork after an incident left a former soldier dead. Civilian attacks on two military lorries wounded sixty to seventy soldiers and twenty nine bombs were used. Firing spread through streets with patrols in motor lorries and armored cars. Several young women and ex-soldiers were hurt before shelter could be found.
A North Casper house at College and United Streets was destroyed by a fast moving fire discovered around 6 26 pm yesterday. Noel J Martin owned the home with about 1200 in unofficial losses. Firefighters fought the blaze without chemicals and limited spread to neighboring houses due to lack of a nearby fire plug ten blocks away. The occupants were away when the fire started and the origin remains unknown.
Utah-Idaho Sugar company directors bound over for trial on profiteering in sugar charge by the United States commissioner in Salt Lake City.
Five Republicans appear on Natrona county ballots for the state legislature in the upcoming primary. The senate slate includes J. W. Johnson and Geo. K. Posvar while the house list features R K Raush Harry N. Free and J. E. Frisby. Democrats have no filings for these seats.
Philadelphia reports that Grover Cleveland Bergdoll draft dodger remains uncaptured after escapes from army officers on May 21 despite widespread rumors of his capture.
Senator Warren G. Harding assails the postwar policy accord between President Wilson and Governor Cox. He urges a referendum on foreign policy, arguing Europe and America were misled by a proposed peace plan. The Harding statement cites Colonel E M House and a Philadelphia Public Ledger cable from London.
Pauline Meglitsch aged 36 shot Julius Jonas brother in law of Leo Feist at her home Sunday morning and then killed herself. Jonas was in critical condition with the bullet severing a nerve. Mrs Jonas had sued for separate maintenance and the two women were recently reconciled before the tragedy.
Columbus July 19 Governor Cox declined to answer Senator Harding’s call for a bill of particulars about his conference with the president. The note indicates continuation on page 5.
Chicago reports say 16 railroad unions meet to discuss rejecting a wage award from the War Labor Board. Leaders doubt a general strike can be avoided though a referendum or walkout are possible. Pennsylvania Railroad cuts 10 percent of its workforce as costs exceed revenue.
The British government received a note from the Russian soviet government stating willingness to agree to an armistice and peace with Poland. George Tchitcherin sent the note replying to a British armistice proposal and presenting a fresh proposition under consideration by British officials. The dispatch mentions grain and hay harvest conditions.
Sandy Hook July 19 Captain William P Burton will again command the Shamrock IV with Lipton keeping his options open after a highly criticized performance in Saturdays race. The next contest is scheduled for tomorrow and Lipton declined to detail possible changes.
Sheriff Cline said he would leave for the Mexican border to arrest former heavyweight champion Jack Johnson under sentence in Chicago for Mann act violation. Johnson reportedly agreed to cross the boundary. surrender planned at Tijuana.
George Bosko, scheduled to hang for a double murder near Pueblo, was granted an indefinite reprieve by Acting Governor Stephan on the board of pardons recommendation while a lunacy investigation proceeds.
Berlin July 19 United Press reports Prince Joachim, youngest son of the Kaiser, shot himself to death in his bed at Sanssouci Park. The act followed his wife’s desertion and a drunken spree. Brother Prince Eitel Friedrich called it a psychic disturbance under pressure of events. Rumors said Joachim carried heavy gambling debts. He will be buried Tuesday at Potsdam.
Berlin July 19 friends of Prince Joachim of Hohenzollern deny reports that his death by own action at Potsdam was caused by scandal. They cite only marital disappointments and financial troubles as factors, noting his need for funds and the crown allowance limits from the Prussian government.
Two workers were injured in separate incidents on city streets. J A Bruce fell from a Burlington truck around 10 30 this morning and suffered possible brain concussion. D Ruice sprained his back while pre burning paving material on a roller. H H Van Inweegen burned on his arm shoulder and chest when gasoline ignited his clothing during use near the W R Johnson feed store on South Durbin street.
Chicago July 19 The surface street car strike ended today by an open shop agreement.
Cheyenne July 19 state highway commission will open bids August 3 for 12 mile Yellowstone highway section in Natrona county from Casper city limits to Converse county line. Bids also asked for Casper area culverts and bridges in nearby sections. Goshen Weston Park and Sweetwater projects included with various bridge and road improvements statewide.
Crowds at Cheyenne greet Melford Kargus Wayne EF Stanley and Thomas V Carroll upon arrival from Wray Cole on a murder charge. Faller is expected to die soon after he was assaulted Friday night. The soldiers, ironed together, were hustled away by car after taunts of that them and get a rope.
Russell Thompson a tool dresser at the McPherson well near Casper was killed instantly when a bull rope snagged a finch pipe and struck him in the chin. He had worked at the well about three days after arriving from Taft California. An inquest was planned for this afternoon and his body awaited relatives from California.
