Inspector W H Dorman of the Vancouver postal division visited Cascade to study a Brooklyn to Cascade route via Gladstone and McRae Landing. Officials expect thrice weekly service. improvements include eastern Canadian mail via Chicago and Vancouver via Spokane with a through mail pack.
H L Moody owner of Christina town site received notice last Sunday that his application for a 25 percent tax reduction was granted. The Grand Forks court of religion heard Moody’s request to lower his assessment from $8 000 to $6 000. The case was considered Monday and approved.
A libelous tale of a $14,500 liquidation at the British Columbia Mercantile Mining Syndicate, Cascade City, claimed mismanagement and branch openings. The Spokesman-Review and Cascade organizers deny the story as untrue, while London-backed syndicate pursues creditors and a possible lawsuit.
A Record report states dynamite blew ice at Kettle River halting the first crossing, forcing the Bell & Duncan stage line to route via Grand Forks. Affected leader A W Ross of Columbia talks of improved service, shorter trips to Rossburg, and fewer stops, amid local sentiment.
The Canadian Pacific Railway contracts to haul freight from Brooklyn via Lower Arrow Lake to Cascade Grand Forks and Greenwood. Hoskins and Denin win a ten four horse team outfit for the new line with rates 75 cents per hundred to Cascade, $1.00 to Grand Forks, and $1.50 to Greenwood. Freight should reach Cascade in a week, with further shipments routed through Brooklyn once the new line is completed.
