Townsite Company orders lumber for four room cottages to be built by D. D. Ferguson east of the Record building as part of Cascade upbuilding. Work awaits moderating weather and will begin soon with rentals expected once completed.
Cascade held its first masquerade ball Thursday evening at the Railroad Headquarters hall under Prof. John Axtell. About thirty couples masked enjoyed a successful event with home made costumes. judges W Robinson and P J O Reilly were satisfied. Miss St John and Mr Hildberger received the first prizes.
Surveying for the Smelter near Cascade underway under Manager Aldridge. C A Stoess reports suitable local clay for 2,000,000 bricks and flux materials within miles of the site. He has set lines and levels for a mile long flume to supply water, with intake near the dam at the cascades.
W B Oaks of Meyera Falla announced in Cascade that with spring the Spokane to Rosaland line will gain one or two additional wires into the Boundary country. An extra instrument at each office is planned to improve communication with the outside world.

A fierce snow storm blanketed Cascade and created a four mile drift between 20 Mile House and Gladetone. Sawmill owner Alex McPherson lost his horse on a rocky hill near Olaon's tunnel and trudged to Gladatone while two men rescued the animal. Contractors soon dispatched 100 workers to clear drifts but faced renewed blocking as snowfall overwhelmed efforts.
The report notes Mr. McPherson had a very narrow escape while opening the road to traffic and vows not to endure such an experience again soon.
Weather apart, progress rises on the dam above town with 25 men at work. Superintendent Anderson and Foreman Simmons direct crews installing round timbers and filling earth. P F Quinlivan leads open cut work for the flume, while Dana and Barber have delivered about 15,000 of 60,000 feet and move timber with teams.
A severe cold snap grips the northwest after a wet spell. Temperatures plunged with a morning reading 25 degrees below zero locally while Grand Forks Republic and Greenwood report even colder conditions. Cascade remains relatively milder in comparison as cold continues.
Norman McLellan & Co. have opened a wholesale hay grain and feed depot in Cascade. They rent the Fletcher barn on Second Avenue as a warehouse and ordered 12 carloads of hay and oats, with three or four already arriving. McLellan plans Cascade as headquarters distributing to Grand Forks Greenwood and other Boundary points.
