Investment and Trust Company Formed in Grand Forks

Record notes dates of December 1 15 and 29 1900 and requests copies of the paper for payment. Announces the organization of an Investment and Trust company in Grand Forks with Mr A Miller said to head the movement.

In Rossland O Lalonde was elected mayor by a 29 vote margin over Harry Daniele. Gus Carlson won Kasle mayoralty by 30 over G T Kane. Editor Duncan Ross lost Greenwood mayoralty to Dr Jakes while Ross supporters did well overall. Thos Kilpatrick became Revelstoke mayor. White defeated Manley in Grand Forks. Phoenix kept its old council in office. M P Gordon named Kamloops mayor. Victoria re elected the entire old board.

Destructive Fire Destroys McBean Co Store and Adjacent Buildings

A major blaze Thursday night around 8 o clock consumed McBean and Co dry goods on Dominion Avenue and spread to the Imperial hotel and Phoenix News Co buildings. Losses include McBean stock 12000 dollars, McBean building 3000, Imperial hotel 10000, Phoenix News Co stock and building 2000, Hicks dry goods 1800. total losses exceed 48000 with partial insurance covering less than half.

J A Bertoia and families enjoyed a sleigh ride to Grand Forks. Fire at Imperial hotel in Phoenix caused losses to Mr Monnier Mr John Earle and Mr Ira Black. Mr Black recently opened business. Monnier loss about 900 dollars. Robert Kelman left for Nelson. Snow weight increased after roof collapse of an old railway commissary building. J S Carter of Winnipeg appointed traveling passenger agent for C P R in Kootenay and Yale. HQ at Nelson. J Robertson has returned.

Notice of Private Bill for Railway and Telegraph Lines

Notice is given that an application will be made to the Parliament of Canada for an Act to incorporate a company to construct and operate a standard gauge railway from Cascade City along the Kettle River to near Carson, with branch lines, telegraph and telephone lines, power to expropriate lands, tolls, and related works within British Columbia. Dated December 10, 1900 in Dutchat Rossland BC.

The Spokane Falls and Northern Railway Co along with Nelson and Fort Sheppard and Red Mountain lines form the sole all rail route east and south to Rossland Nelson and intermediate points with connections at Spokane Meyers Falls and Rosaberg. The DAY TRAIN arrives Spokane at 6 40 pm and reaches Nelson at 7 15 pm while the NIGHT TRAIN runs 9 45 pm departure arriving 7 00 am at Spokane and 7 00 am at Rossland with a daily stage link to Republic Grand Forks and Greenwood.
