Mrs Southam's Residence Ravaged By Fire
The small house on First avenue burned Tuesday afternoon around 8 30. Flames rose from the roof before help arrived and the building was fully destroyed with all possessions lost except a single rocking chair saved by Mrs Southam who was away visiting her daughter Mrs Brown. The fire likely started from a defective flue with no insurance and the Townsite company ownership noted.
Phoenix's Railroad Spur to Reach Phoenix Freight Soon
Jay P. Graves reports from Montreal on January 16 that C P R officials expect to finish the track age to Midway barring heavy snow. The line will be laid for Phoenix use as soon as freight moves or ore shipments require it, with readiness by late February at the latest.

Burglar Tries to Break Into Trunk Near Columbia Hotel
An attempted burglary occurred Monday evening when a trespasser forced open the back door of a small building west of the Columbia hotel and used an icepick to attack a trunk owned by Mrs Banpfield. The thief fled after breaking off the pick in the lock. the trunk was later removed for safekeeping as the owner was away.

Milestone Steam Boiler Transport To Republic
A large five ton steam boiler passed through town on a proof of transit to Republic. It rode on a log sled that needed renewals during the trip drawn by eight horses with eight on hand for grades. Transportation cost quoted at five cents per pound, totaling about $500, two weeks to move, icy roads and maimed horses adding to expense and reducing profit.
