Seventy year old A G Gamble possesses a historic document from York now Toronto recording the returning officer Claude Gamble and the election of William Batsford Jarvis to Parliament in October 1880. The nine-signature parchment notes that Jarvis was chosen to represent York and meets in the town that month. The document’s signatories include the elder Gamble, who at 94 recalls his 1880 signature exactly. It was loaned by A B Jarvis, chief’s father, now in Nelson.
